Informational eBook Texts in Year 1

Informational Text elements such as Contents Page and visuals to match text. Students learned (tried) to use touch typing skills using 2 hands/fingers and keeping their iPads flat on their desk. Students chose seas creatures they were interested in to research. The students in Mrs Fosters class continued to create their own information text eBooks using Book Creator app. The student's completed classification charts with their Science teacher and used www.kiddle.com  to research their answers. Some students were able to create an Index for their eBook choosing the words they wanted to define, such as habitat and features.

Mrs Westlund demonstrating how to create a grid using the rulers in Keynote on the MacBooks. Checking in to discuss, create and input features of maps such as compass points. Locking images and sending relevant elements to the front/back for easier use by users of the map. The students in Mrs Westlund's class continued to develop a map of South America using Keynote on the MacBooks. They learned to import images, create and overlay a grid using the rulers and shapes elements in Keynote and finally they learned to lock down their maps and bring elements of a map to the front to make sure the map worked well for a user of it.

Talk for Writing eBooks in PPS

Students used their plans integrating descriptive language. The patchy dog... or is that a horse? The students in Mrs Crabtree's class have begun their new talk for writing story. This provided a great opportunity for the students to integrate their story telling and descriptive language with creating an eBook using Book Creator app. The students used their plans to draw pictures that represented their main characters with appropriate colours or features. Next they will work on integrating their settings and main parts of their story plan.
