Stop Motion Angles Animations in Year 5

Image
The students in Mrs Westlund's class learned to create Stop Motion Animations about angles as part of a short unit of study integrating Maths and Languages. The students learned to take multiple photos or 'frames' using the iMotion app to make a cartoon style animation that outlined the main angle types. They created short text titles and pictures to take the many frames they needed to put the animation together. It was great to see some students researching angles to make sure they were correct! Next the students will export their animations as a movie to iMovie where they will add Explain Everything movies of a cinquan poems about a chosen type of angle. Great work Year 5!

Using Data for Making Ramps in Year 1

Image
Collecting data in Numbers app. Creating bar graphs using the car roll data. As part of the Design Technologies project 'Going Further' the students in Mrs Baker's and Mrs Sgro's class learned to use the Numbers app to collect the data of their car rolls on different surfaces, represent it as a bar graph and then answer a challenge question about it all. Firstly, in groups the students put their car roll measurements into a spreadsheet in Numbers app. Then they created a 2D bar graph of their measurements in the app. Next, all students looked at their graph and then thought about the challenge question 'How can we make a car go further with out pushing it?'. After discussing ramps and different surfaces the students learned to research ramps using the student friendly search engine - kiddle.co After taking screen shots of ramps and their graphs each group created a short iMovie with these pictures and recorded their answer to the challenge question. It ...

Explaining Everything about Pet Rock Houses in Year 2

Image
Sharing and reflecting by Screen Sharing to the Apple TV Inserting a photo of House Plans to Explain Everything  Reviewing house parts, materials and special moving toy ready for an explanation. Recording explanations of the house design with laser pointers in Explain Everything. The students in Mrs Summer's class learned to use Explain Everything app to explain their house designs for a pet rock. As part of this Design Technologies project the students developed a plan with diagrams of their house and included the key elements - 2 stories, a bed and a toy that moves for their pet rock. After learning how to take clear photos on the iPad the students inserted a picture of their design into Explain Everything app and even learned to crop the photo to make it better for the audience to see. They then added text to label their design pictures, chose a laser pointer and practiced what they will say about their house. Then all the students learned about recording expl...

Creating Movies for a Movie Competition in Year 4

Image
The students in Mrs Hoad's and Mrs Carmody's class began creating movies using iMovie app for a competition being conducted by ABC Primary Education about 'Where I Live' -  http://education.abc.net.au/home#!/join-in  The students learned how to create the features of a movie such as title credits, ending credits (including acknowledgement of others work like Google Maps) audio and angles. The students found it challenging to make a movie about where they live in 60 seconds but once they learned how to edit video and image lengthy were away! Good luck Year 4's.

Going Further with Movies in Year 1

Title Screen of 'Going Further' Design Tech project. Checking in and reviewing with the Apple TV. The students in Mrs Baker's class continued their learning of making movies with iMovie app. Following on from their movie trailers for their adventure stories they learned to make their first movies with iMovie in their groups. They learned to create title screens, transitions and even backgrounds for their titles that matched the surface of the floor they will use for their Design Technology project - 'Going Further'. They used close up pictures of the Carpet or the Slippery Floor to prepare their movie for filming their car rolls for the project. Top job Year 1's!

Creating Multi-Media Timelines in Year 5

Image
Explain Everything provides a range of icons for students to create vibrant visual explanations of concepts. The students in Mrs Ford's class learned to use the Explain Everything app to create engaging multi-media timelines as part of their unit on the the Swan River Colony. Students used the pre-set shapes, laser pointers, text, recording and editing tools to develop a timeline of the new school day. It was great to see many students designing their timeline with the goal of informing others about the key elements of the new timetable by making well placed time markers, enlarging or bolding shapes and/or text and outlining relevant parts with laser pointers during their recorded explanations. Well done Year 5's!
