Creating Fast Facts eBooks with BeeBots in Year 3.

Image
Counting on by 2. What could be a possible answer? The students in Mrs Cooke's and Mrs Coote's classes learned to combine their Book Creator skills with their newly learned BeeBot coding skills and their mental Maths knowledge to create an eBook about Fast Facts. With the aim of teaching others the name of some Fast Facts and how they work the students created number lines (as seen in the pictures) and wrote clues in a Book Creator eBook. They then learned how to create a page link in Book Creator to be able to provide the reader with an option to view a video of the Fast Fact in action with BeeBot. Coding BeeBot using addition and subtraction was a bit of a challenge at first but all groups passed with flying colours in the end. Well done Year 3!

A Guide to Africa and South America, Coded by Year 4.

A block code string for the main character of the guide - Scratch the Cat. First we started by building a block code to get scratch to walk around a red carpet. The eager students in Mrs Hoad's and Mrs Carmody's class learned to build algorithms with block code using Scratch Jr app on the iPads. First they were challenged to make a code for Scratch the Cat to walk around a big circle shaped carpet and passed with flying colours! Then they used their atlas skills to look up maps of the world, South America and Africa and take photos of them to make backgrounds in Scratch Jr. Finally, they learned how to create a code that allowed user input by touch to build a guide of these continents using their research of them. Congratulations on starting your coding journey Year 4's!

Explaining Everything in Year 2

Image
First, everyone created and labelled their bar graphs then converted them to 3D in Numbers app. Then we outlined special elements of the dice roll data with inking in Explain Everything app. Then everyone created an explanation of their data using Explain Everything app.  The lovely students in Mrs Aylett's class learned to use a new app called Explain Everything to create and record a short analysis of the data they had created last session. Everyone converted their 2D bar graph made in Numbers app to a 3D graph which made reading the data easy. It even put a little finger scroller on the graph to move it at different angles. Then everyone copied and pasted their 3D graph into the Explain Everything app. In this app they learned that they can use different colours to add ink to their graph outlining low tallies such as the number 2 and the highest tally, number 4. Finally, everyone used the recording feature (red button) to record some short descriptions of what the d...

Creating and Testing Code in Year 3

Image
The students realised the starting point was very important to how the code would need to be created. It was also a must to help BeeBot learn to write numbers the correct way!  Creating code for '0' using BeeBot command cards. Documenting a created code for '0' in a Book Creator eBook. Creating code for '7' was easier than '0'. The students in Mrs Cooke's and Mrs Coode's class continued to create codes for the purpose of helping BeeBot to learn how to write numbers. Further, they tested their codes that had been recorded in their Book Creator eBooks by inputing and running their codes on the BeeBots. They demonstrated some great collaboration and team work in their groups to test if their codes were successful. Many groups then progressed to creating code for harder numbers that incorporated backwards commands such as '3' and '4'. Well done Year 3's!

Analysing Chance and Probability Data in Year 2

Image
The students in Mrs Aylett's class continued to develop their skills working with data on the iPads. They used Numbers app to collect tallies of rolling a dice and represent this data as a bar graph or other graph of their choice. The whole class will next use Explain Everything app on the iPads to explain their very own analyses of the chance and probability of rolling dice! Well done class!!!
