The Numbers are in - Year 4 is Multicultural.

Image
Spreadsheet to Collect Data. 3D Bar Graph (pink) to Represent the Data.  3D Pie Chart (multi-coloured) to Represent and Analyse the Data.  The students in Mrs Carmody's and Mrs Hoad's class went through a process of collecting, representing and analysing data about the countries they are from recently. Firstly, individually, they used a plain spreadsheet in the Numbers app on the iPad to collect and organise the data about their own class. Then they learned how to represent the data from their spreadsheet by creating both 2D and 3D bar and pie charts of it. Finally, after labelling their chart axis and formatting the values on it both classes answered questions about their classes data using their charts to answer. It was great to see comparisons and inferences were made about other classes data, both inside and outside the school, without even seeing their data. Well done Year 4's!

Movie Directing in Year 1

Image
The students in Mrs Baker's class created some fantastic movie trailers using iMovie on the iPads. Firstly, in groups of approx. 3 they developed a story board plan for their trailers. Then they learned how to take photos on the iPad with the 'flap down, wings in' method, making sure no fingers or hands are on the lens and the iPad is nice and stable. Next, in their groups all students inputted photos and text into the placeholders on the iMovie app, learning how to use the punctuation and numbers keys on the keyboard as they worked through it. Most groups got about half-way through their planners and took some amazing landscape, selfie and mid-range photos and typed some fantastic sentences using their story writing skills. Well done Mrs Baker's class!

Digital Coding in Year 3

Image
The students in Mrs Cooke's and Mrs Coode's class progressed on from their learning of physical coding with BeeBots to learning digital coding using block code language with the Scratch Jr app. The students worked individually to create algorithms for some starter challenges and then used their knowledge of the commands they learned to create a guide of two continents of their choice to integrate their HaSS learning. Further, this enabled the students to create a product with consideration for a target audience or 'user' of their finished product. The app, which is free on the App Store for iPad, is a logical starting point for intermediate learners in their coding journey and the Year 3's have started their journey with flying colours. Well done Year 3's!

Creating Fast Facts eBooks with the Help of BeeBots in Year 3 - Continued

Image
Testing a video and code for 'Doubles'.  Filming a successful code for 'Make 10'. The students in Mrs Coote's and Mrs Cooke's class were both busy last session progressing with their eBooks teaching younger students about Maths Fast Facts. They continued to create links within their books to pages that provided a solution for the reader that contained a video of BeeBot demonstrating the fast fact on a number line. The designing, testing, collaboration and coding in each group was of a really high standard. Can't wait to seeing the finished eBooks Year 3's!

Explaining Everything about the Relationship between Multiplication and Division in Year 2

Image
The students in Mrs Aylett's class learned to create tutorials to help others learn how multiplication links to division using the Explain Everything app. They very quickly learned how to generate shapes such as circles and squares and duplicate them to make arrays. They also learned to use the inking features and the screen recording function to be able to circle the different parts of their arrays to teach others about this Maths relationship. Some students even wrote a short script to help them create a clear, smooth and entertaining tutorial to make learning multiplication and division fun. Well done class!
