Parallel Worlds or Circuits!?!?

Image
The Year 2students in Mrs Aylett's class progressed their learning of electronic circuit systems further by designing and creating successful parallel circuit systems. Using the Snap-on electronics kits from the Digital Technologies box the class worked in their pairs again to plan and draw circuit diagrams in Book Creator app that would be successful at activating/working 2 different elements on one circuit. The groups discovered that by paying attention to the polarity of the power source and the direction it flows through the circuit that a parallel circuit structure was the best solution for success. Well done Year 2's!

Non-Fiction eBooks in Year 1

Image
The students in Mrs Baker's classed completed their non-fiction eBooks about native plants, animals and culture following their excursion to Yanchep National Park. The students expanded their topics to include content such as indigenous culture and Australian weather as part of their unit of study. The students learned to link all the topics on their contents page to the page they had allocated for that particular topic, making their eBooks interactive. Finally, everyone developed a glossary of key words at the end of their eBook and linked these to the pages they referenced the word too! Well done Year 1's!

Keynoting Christmas in Year 2

Image
The students in Mrs Summer's class learned to use the Keynote app on the iPads to develop a presentation that supports their persuasive writing text - 'How to Be a Good Elf'. Using their text as a basis, students used template slides that suited their persuasive purpose i.e. an image or text placeholders on their slides to enhance their persuasive purpose. Further, they learned to immerse animations and slide transitions into their presentations to further enhance their persuasive purpose. Well done Year 2's!

Systems Thinking in Year 2

Image
The students in Mrs Aylett's class learned about systems through creating successful circuits. The students learned the elements of an electronic circuit and about conductivity of electricity. In pairs they then designed a plan for a successful circuit in Book Creator. They then created and tested their own circuit for success using the Electronic Circuit Snap-on Kits. All groups took a photo of their successful circuit to match their plan and as evidence of their success. Well done Year 2's!

Dealing with Data in Year 2

Image
The Year 2 students in Mrs Summer's class continued their learning about Data by using the iPads to collect and represent data. They learned to use spreadsheets on Numbers app to organise their data, to represent it in many different types of graphs and finally to ask each other questions about it to show understanding of their graphs. It was great to see the students develop the concept of X and Y axis while labeling their graphs too! Well done Year 2's!

Non-Fiction eBooks with Mrs Baker's Class

Image
Some of the Year 1 students recently created an eBook about Native Plants and Animals following their recent excursion to Yanchep National Park. Using photos of their excursion as prompts the students learned to research images and information using internet resources such as https://pics4learning.com, Google Advanced Search and www.kiddle.co to use for their eBook. They also reviewed the parts of a non-fiction text such as Contents page to create their eBooks using Book Creator. The students will next link their contents pages to the information pages in their books. Well done Year 1's!
