The technologies after college session in Week 3 featured the 4 members of the Winthrop Australia team sharing out insights, experiences and work samples of their work from Term 1 to the present. Mrs Westlund shared a range of experiences around the Yr. 5 BeeBot project including wonderful video samples of the students communicating their projects. Further, this project integrated Keynote, Book Creator app and Scratch Jnr to form a comprehensive assessment of digital and design technologies with which the students had input into the assessment rubric.
Mrs Foster elaborated on her work in Yr. 1 as part of a longitudinal focus from PP last Year through to the present. This included using online research resources such as Kiddle appropriate for Yr. 1 level, Popplet for organising information researched and the concept of the colour wheel for unplugged learning tasks.
Mrs Crabtree shared her learning design using technology in PP including a positional language task developed using Stop Motion app, talk for writing retells using Puppet Pals, Popplet app to identify and classify images. The power of tasks such as photo and video creation were highlighted as valuable fluency skills for PP level. All work was presented in a lovely Keynote presentation.
Finally, Mrs. Wade outlined the technology integration she had been applying in her Yr. 6 class. This included Numbers app for data collection/representation/analysis, Notes app for providing explicit demonstration and practice of note taking skills and iMovie app for developing a digital technologies product assessment - A Myths and Legend movie that conveys emotion to the audience.
The insight into learning design using technology at various year levels was valued by all participants particularly the capacity for differentiation and extension where possible.

The Year 2 students in Mrs Summer's class continued their learning about Data by using the iPads to collect and represent data. They learned to use spreadsheets on Numbers app to organise their data, to represent it in many different types of graphs and finally to ask each other questions about it to show understanding of their graphs. It was great to see the students develop the concept of X and Y axis while labeling their graphs too! Well done Year 2's!

Spreadsheet to Collect Data. 3D Bar Graph (pink) to Represent the Data.  3D Pie Chart (multi-coloured) to Represent and Analyse the Data.  The students in Mrs Carmody's and Mrs Hoad's class went through a process of collecting, representing and analysing data about the countries they are from recently. Firstly, individually, they used a plain spreadsheet in the Numbers app on the iPad to collect and organise the data about their own class. Then they learned how to represent the data from their spreadsheet by creating both 2D and 3D bar and pie charts of it. Finally, after labelling their chart axis and formatting the values on it both classes answered questions about their classes data using their charts to answer. It was great to see comparisons and inferences were made about other classes data, both inside and outside the school, without even seeing their data. Well done Year 4's!

Organising, Representing and Analysing Data with Numbers App in Mrs Wade's Class

The Year 6 students learned how to organise, represent and analyse data they had collected about drawing cards from a pack using Numbers App on the iPad. They organised their data in a blank spreadsheet (as below), then used the chart generation options (+ icon top right corner) in the app to represent it as a pie chart. The students then learned how they can format their charts to ensure they accurately represent the data in a way that they can analyse it themselves, such as giving their chart an appropriate title and inserting labels to match the values within the pie. Finally, they learned how to convert their 2D pie chart into a 3D version with interactive scrolling to enhance analysis. Next, the students will use the app to collect, organise, represent and analyse data about the possibility of a boy/girl birth in separate families.
